House passes gun control legislation banning private gun sales

Just The NewsThe Background Checks Act prohibits firearm transfers between private individuals without first having a background check. Eight House Republicans voted in favor of the measure. One Democrat voted against the bill, according to an unofficial tally.

The Democrats have passed two gun control bills through the House, with a third likely on the way. Getting them through the Senate will take either 10 Republicans or breaking the filibuster.
