ATF jumping the gun on gun control

Reno Gazette-JournalThe Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives raided a Dayton-based gun manufacturing company, Polymer80, on Dec. 10.

Polymer80 is suspected of manufacturing and selling illegal firearms, failing to properly pay taxes, shipping firearms to customers in different states and failing to conduct background checks on customers who want to purchase a firearm, according to an affidavit filed in U.S District Court by ATF Special Agent Tolliver Hart on Dec. 9.

Polymer80 sells a product called the "Buy Build Shoot" kit which includes all the necessary parts to build a functioning firearm. ATF agents purchased several kits and had them delivered to California, according to the affidavit.

Don't bother with the rest of the article, it's all fear-mongering. Basically, these are kits that include a roughly 80% complete block of material which requires some labor with machine tools to turn into a frame, after which you use more tools and the rest of the parts in the kit to manufacture a firearm which is legal only for personal use and not for sale to others. The legality of this has always been on thin ice with the ATF, and it appears they have decided to crack down under a Biden administration.

Free BeaconNew guidance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) could put millions of Americans in legal jeopardy.

The ATF published a notice Thursday that could require millions of AR-15 pistols and similar firearms—which are designed with braces that strap on to a shooter's forearm—to be either registered, turned in, destroyed, or dismantled. But the standards laid out for determining the devices' legality, such as caliber or weight, provide no objective measures, and the agency said it may also use undisclosed factors to judge the legality of the devices.

So two significant new gun control initiatives already in motion even before Trump leaves office.
