What Obama knew and when he knew it

The Federalist“Following the compilation of the above information, the [Crossfire Hurricane] team determined that [Flynn] was no longer a viable candidate as part of the larger CROSSFIRE HURRICANE umbrella case,” the memo continued. “A review of logical [redacted] databases did not yield any information on which to predicate further investigative efforts.”

“The FBI is closing this investigation,” the memo concluded.

So, they looked into Flynn, and asked other agencies for any derogatory information they have on him. (Gosh, do you think that information might also be useful to a political campaign?) They didn't actually get any, so the investigation was closed... except:

The FederalistText messages included in the latest court filings in Flynn’s ongoing criminal case show that Peter Strzok, who was fired from the FBI for misconduct, ordered an unnamed associate managing the investigation to not close the Flynn investigation, notwithstanding the fact that the FBI concluded there was no legal or factual basis to continue its investigation of Flynn.

So Strzok ordered that the investigation stay open, stating that "the 7th floor" was involved. The top level of the FBI -- meaning Comey, McCabe, etc -- have offices on the 7th floor. That was January 4th. What happened on January 5th?

Susan Rice Email (as quoted at Meaning in History)On January 5, following a briefing by IC leadership on Russian hacking during the 2016 Presidential election, President Obama had a brief follow-on conversation with FBI Director Jim Comey and Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates in the Oval Office. Vice President Biden and I were also present.

President Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities “by the book”. The President stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book.

From a national security perspective, however, President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia.

The President asked Comey to inform him if anything changes in the next few weeks that should affect how we share classified information with the incoming team. Comey said he would.

Declassification Date: 1/20/27

So, the day after Strzok frantically blocks the field office from closing the investigation into Flynn, Comey goes to a White House meeting (including Susan Rice, Sally Yates, Biden, and Obama himself) where Obama says not to tell the incoming team about classified information. Rice stresses he said to conduct this by the book, but that language is an obvious attempt to ass-cover exactly the opposite.

And shortly after that, we get the laughable Logan Act pretext and an interview with Flynn (by Comey's own admission NOT conducted by the book) which led to him being fired under false pretenses and eventually coerced into a guilty plea.

We no longer need to ask what Obama knew and when he knew it. We know.
