Everything you're not supposed to know about suppressors


There's a video and some decibel testing. Bottom line: Supressors (sometimes aka "silencers") are hearing protection devices, like the muffler on your car. Combined with other hearing protection (earplugs, etc) they protect your hearing from damage when using a firearm. As you might gather from that bit about "with other hearing protection", it is still a very loud noise.

The only thing criminals gain by using a muffler is a serious federal felony. But ordinary people using them gain a lot.
