Cuomo calls for more gun buyback programs in New York

He signed one bill and immediately called for more. These "buybacks" are often considered a waste of money by gun rights advocates, but I'm not entirely sure that's correct. No, they don't get guns out of criminal hands (except possibly as a way to dump evidence), but they DO put a lot of money into the hands of low-level political types who can easily go to a sporting goods store or toy store, buy a bunch of "guns" on the cheap, and pass out the money to themselves, their friends, the campaigns of their political sponsors...

It's a waste of the public's money, but I don't think the politicians think it's a waste at all, even if it has no impact on crime whatsoever.

I suspect an investigation of these programs by public corruption agents would prove fruitful.
