This is somewhat circular but the point is still valid. The counterpoints: federal crimes don't include local or state crimes, which are the majority of criminal activity, especially violence, and of course, being in the country illegally is a crime and one of the few crimes that fall under federal jurisdiction and are commonly committed.
The core point does stand, though. Illegal aliens are a large burden on our justice system, and deporting them rather than allowing them to remain in the country tying up the court system with frivolous asylum claims and court dates they don't bother to show up for would save us a lot of trouble.
