The Battle for America's Childten

C Bradly ThompsonThe time has come for the American people to address the fundamental question of our age: who is responsible for the education of your children, you or the State? Put differently the question is: do you want to live in a free society where parents control the education of their children, or do you want to live in an authoritarian society where the State controls the education of your children?

The choice is yours, my friends. Make it well.

Laying out the stakes for the battle over control of education.

Critical Race Theory in education

Paul RossiMy school, like so many others, induces students via shame and sophistry to identify primarily with their race before their individual identities are fully formed. Students are pressured to conform their opinions to those broadly associated with their race and gender and to minimize or dismiss individual experiences that don’t match those assumptions. The morally compromised status of “oppressor” is assigned to one group of students based on their immutable characteristics. In the meantime, dependency, resentment and moral superiority are cultivated in students considered “oppressed.”

All of this is done in the name of “equity,” but it is the opposite of fair. In reality, all of this reinforces the worst impulses we have as human beings: our tendency toward tribalism and sectarianism that a truly liberal education is meant to transcend.

Recently, I raised questions about this ideology at a mandatory, whites-only student and faculty Zoom meeting. (Such racially segregated sessions are now commonplace at my school.) It was a bait-and-switch “self-care” seminar that labelled “objectivity,” “individualism,” “fear of open conflict,” and even “a right to comfort” as characteristics of white supremacy. I doubted that these human attributes — many of them virtues reframed as vices — should be racialized in this way. In the Zoom chat, I also questioned whether one must define oneself in terms of a racial identity at all. My goal was to model for students that they should feel safe to question ideological assertions if they felt moved to do so.

Another school board with an enemies list

Behind the BlackBlacklists are back and the Democrats (and their supporters) have got ’em: Two officials at the Lovett School, an expensive private K-12 school in the Atlanta area, have assembled an enemies list of “insubordinate” parents.

Parents are not "subordinates" of school board members.

Students threatened with arrest for refusing mask mandates

PJMediaSchool mask mandates have recently been lifted in New Jersey and in Delaware. Massachusetts is also considering lifting its mandate.

But in Loudoun County, Va., students who attempt to enter school maskless could face arrest. According to a leaked email, a security official for Loudoun County Public Schools coached principals on obtaining a warrant to arrest students who attempted to enter school maskless.

This is how police states operate.

To defeat CRT we must embrace school choice

The FederalistBecause education’s entire infrastructure has been run for a century by people who pledge allegiance to leftist ideologies that aim to destroy the American way of life, bans on teaching critical race theory or explicit sexual acts have very limited effects, says the report. This means other means are needed to truly end the left’s political weaponization of education funds.

“The effort to ‘ban’ CRT may have roused public support and action among parents to reform the system, but it does very little to fundamentally reform the system,” the authors note. “…It is not possible to establish a ‘neutral’ school system. Those with political power will always teach their beliefs in exclusion of others. Legislators must decide who should be given primary control over the schools and the next generation, get out of the business of banning, and start demanding.”

The report authors therefore recommend lawmakers distribute education funds directly to parents, instead of corrupted education institutions that have shown themselves impervious to a century of reform efforts. This would also relieve U.S. public education’s systemic discrimination against religious families that currently bans children from instruction fully integrated with their faith as a condition of receiving public dollars.

“School choice would allow people to select education options compatible with their religious beliefs and backgrounds, rather than requiring them to fight for control over the public education system,” the report says.

It also recommends rejecting federal grants, letting charter schools construct their own teacher certification pathways, making all instruction materials public, barring schools from using public dollars to pay for racist instruction, and replacing the state’s Common Core curriculum mandates.

Mask-protesting students locked in freezing gym

TwitterGetting reports that after hundreds protested against school mask mandates yesterday, today, @OakdaleJUSD barricaded any student not properly wearing a mask in the gym and refused to turn on the heat. Police were called for a wellness check and police turned on the heat.

At least the students didn't get run over. But I think, rather than pointing out that this is part of the dehumanization campaign against the unvaxxed, it's more likely to be the result of that campaign. These are kids! Students, not even yet adults, who are not at risk from COVID nor at risk of transmitting it to anyone. They aren't even sick. They just don't want to wear masks all day, every day, for the rest of eternity. Many of the teachers who locked them in the gym know their names, talked with them nearly every day for months at a time. And yet, their humanity is rejected because their faces can be seen?

This is insanity.

Also: if you were under any illusions that teachers in public schools actually cared about your kids, this should straighten that out right quick.

Playing political games

American GreatnessIn Virginia, the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) district has announced that it will return two pornographic books, including a graphic novel, to the shelves of its schools’ libraries, after an internal investigation determined that the materials qualified as “diverse reading materials,” as reported by the Daily Caller.

The two books in question – “Gender Queer” by Maia Kobabe, and “Lawn Boy” by Jonathan Evison – both feature graphic depictions of homosexual intercourse, with one of them being a graphic novel with visual depictions of an underage boy performing oral sex on an adult male. They were brought to national attention after a Fairfax County mother, Stacy Langton, brought both books to a public LCPS board meeting in September and showed them to everyone in attendance, denouncing the books’ inclusion in school libraries for minors to read.

After national backlash, FCPS removed both books from its libraries and said that it would conduct an internal review of the decision-making that led to the books’ inclusion in the first place. But two months later, after allegedly concluding said investigation, the district announced in a statement that it had determined the books to be appropriate for underaged children to read.

They waited until they thought the heat was off, and then went right back at it.

School boards spying on parents

Conservative TreehouseThe Scottsdale Unified School District in Arizona was scrambling after a group of moms discovered that Board President Jann-Michael Greenburg was keeping secret surveillance files, a dossier of sorts, on parents and students the school board head viewed as a risk to the interests of the district.

In essence what the parents discovered was evidence their own school system was keeping creepy opposition files on the parents of students in the school district.

Parents gathered today to demand the removal of the Governing Board President Jann-Michael Greenburg, and the destruction of the Google Drive files filled with personal information, documents, and photos of about 47 people, including children.

Disgusting, and a perfect inversion of the power relationship that is supposed to exist.

Political profiteering from the Attorney General

Conservative TreehouseWell, well, well… This is interesting. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland recently instructed the FBI to begin investigating parents who confront school board administrators over Critical Race Theory indoctrination material. The U.S. Department of Justice issued a memorandum to the FBI instructing them to initiate investigations of any parent attending a local school board meeting who might be viewed as confrontational, intimidating or harassing.

Attorney General Merrick Garland’s daughter is Rebecca Garland. In 2018 Rebecca Garland married Xan Tanner [LINK]. Mr. Xan Tanner is the current co-founder of a controversial education service company called Panorama Education. [LINK and LINK] Panorama Education is the “social learning” resource material provider to school districts and teachers that teach Critical Race Theory.

A complaint has already been filed with the Inspector General.

IG Complaint filed over AG Garland's threatening letter

NYPostAmerican parents are organizing to fight racist critical race theories being taught in their kids’ schools. Attorney General Merrick Garland, once touted as a moderate, has responded by asking the FBI to treat them as domestic terrorists.

As befits the Biden administration, this over-the-top authoritarianism is accompanied by the stench of corruption, as it turns out that Garland’s son-in-law is in the business of selling educational materials on CRT.

America First Legal Today, America First Legal requested that the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General (OIG) investigate the circumstances surrounding Attorney General Garland’s October 4th memorandum regarding the use of federal law enforcement against parents opposed to critical race theory, gender ideology, and irrational mask mandates in public schools. Among other things, AFL asked OIG to investigate whether the Attorney General’s Memorandum was issued on Biden White House instructions contrary to the department’s standard procedures, and to determine if it was issued for the improper partisan purpose of chilling and deterring parents from exercising their constitutional right to control and direct the education of their children.

To think this man came so close to sitting on the Supreme Court.

Transgender bathroom policies lead to child rape

Conservative TreehouseThis horrific story is grotesque and enraging. A 14 year-old student was raped and sodomized by a teenage sexual predator in Virginia on May 28th. The school never called the police and apparently wanted to keep the incident covered up because the rapist identifies as a transgender student.

The predator used the transgender bathroom policies of the Loudoun County school system to gain access to the girls bathroom, where he raped and sodomized the victim.

When the father Mr. Scott Smith went to confront the school board in June, he was arrested. [CTH Covered the School Board Meeting HERE] The National School Board Association later used the incident of Mr. Smith’s arrest to label the victim’s father as a “domestic terrorist” in their demand letter to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Virginia police and county prosecutors told Mr. Smith to keep his mouth shut. Meanwhile, the rapist was transferred to another school where he sexually assaulted another teenage girl last week. Only after the second rape did the issue start to become public as the father of the first victim would no longer stay quiet.

There's an election going on in Virginia right now where you can fix this. Remove McAuliffe, famous for pardoning felons in a Democratic get-the-felon-vote-out-of-jail effort and "donating" hundreds of thousands to dollars to Andy McCabe's wife's political campaign, and replace him with a governor who doesn't want little girls being raped in bathrooms by boys in skirts.

The State needs to indoctrinate

Conservative TreehouseDuring a Virginia Governor’s Debate, hosted by NBC Washington at Northern Virginia Community College, gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe emphasized his position that parents should not be allowed to determine what books and content are used in the curriculum of students.

Seeming to be dependent on the teacher’s unions for support, McAuliffe said: “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”

If the parents aren't telling schools what to teach, who is?

Government, obviously.

But government is supposed to come from the people, too. Essentially, still the parents.

McAuliffe is basically denying the legitimacy of our form of government.

School boards feeling the heat

NYPostSchool board members are largely unpaid volunteers, traditionally former educators and parents who step forward to shape school policy, choose a superintendent and review the budget. But a growing number are resigning or questioning their willingness to serve as meetings have devolved into shouting contests between deeply political constituencies over how racial issues are taught, masks in schools, and COVID-19 vaccines and testing requirements.

I do not condone violence, but there's scant actual evidence of violence in this article. Instead, there is evidence that school board members are feeling the heat of an angry and engaged populace over COVID-19 rules and critical race theory.

Keep the pressure on, peacefully. This is what winning looks like.

School schedules "no whites allowed" event

Behind the BlackThe new bigotry: The Wellesley public school district in Massachusetts has organized an event in which it expressly banned — in writing — the attendance of all whites.

The way to end discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race. What kind of lesson are the children learning at this school?

Critical Race Theory is political indoctrination

Judicial WatchAdditionally, the documents show that Montgomery County Public Schools allocated over $454,000 for an “Anti-racist system audit” by The Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, a company that claims that their “expertise in using intersectionality as part of its theory of change makes us uniquely positioned to conduct the Anti-Racist Audit and mitigate the root causes of systemic barriers.”

In Thomas Pyle Middle School’s “social justice” class course curriculum, there is a slide titled “What is systemic racism?” in which students are shown a pyramid slide depicting “Differences between overt and covert hateful white supremacy.” According to the pyramid, “Make America Great Again” is an example of “covert white supremacy” that is “socially unacceptable.” The phrase is ranked on a pyramid just below “racial slurs.”

Examples of other unacceptable covert “white supremacy” include thinking “but we’re just one human family,” “colorblindness,” “cultural appropriation,” “celebration of Columbus Day,” “police murdering POC [people of color],” and “bootstrap theory.”

The vast majority of those statements have nothing to do with race, but quite a lot to do with politics. And one of the "class exercises" involves filling out and mailing a form letter demanding more critical race theory classes.

The author of "The Bell Curve" has a new book out

Charles MurrayThe charges of white privilege and systemic racism that are tearing the country apart fIoat free of reality. Two known facts, long since documented beyond reasonable doubt, need to be brought into the open and incorporated into the way we think about public policy: American whites, blacks, Hispanics, and Asians have different violent crime rates and different means and distributions of cognitive ability. The allegations of racism in policing, college admissions, segregation in housing, and hiring and promotions in the workplace ignore the ways in which the problems that prompt the allegations of systemic racism are driven by these two realities.

What good can come of bringing them into the open? America’s most precious ideal is what used to be known as the American Creed: People are not to be judged by where they came from, what social class they come from, or by race, color, or creed. They must be judged as individuals. The prevailing Progressive ideology repudiates that ideal, demanding instead that the state should judge people by their race, social origins, religion, sex, and sexual orientation.

We on the center left and center right who are the American Creed’s natural defenders have painted ourselves into a corner. We have been unwilling to say openly that different groups have significant group differences. Since we have not been willing to say that, we have been left defenseless against the claims that racism is to blame. What else could it be? We have been afraid to answer. We must. Facing Reality is a step in that direction.

He was one of the very first people to be canceled for observing that various ethnic groups performed differently on IQ tests and doing research about why.

I imagine he has a very interesting perspective on current events.

What's my answer on all this? I fear it's been mostly lost in the degradation of modern education, because it hinges on the difference between equality rights under law and equality of outcome (which modern critical race theorists call "equity").

Every human being has the same basic legal rights. You should not receive special privileges if you are white -- or black, or asian, or hispanic, or anything else. Everyone is a citizen, and has rights because of their citizenship, without regard to race or creed.

What happens after that is entirely up to you. Make the most of it, or don't. Take the credit or the blame.

Yes, some people will have significant advantages over others, or just get lucky. That's life. If you want to succeed, get out there and hustle.
