Republicans going wobbly on gun control?
|
Cantor (Republican Majority Leader of the House) is talking about improving the existing background check system. Coburn (R, Oklahoma) is in secret negotiations about background check legislation. The Democrats smell fear. We need to stiffen some spines. Although we're not going to see any action in the House until the Senate passes something -- anything else would be unforgivably stupid -- it doesn't hurt to prep your Representative for what might be coming down the pipe. On the Senate side, you can do some good. Skas reports that McCain and Kirkpatrick from Arizona are wavering. In Texas, Cruz is solid (thank him) but Cornyn may need some encouragement. It doesn't hurt to go on the offense, either. A few messages to Democrat Joe Manchin wouldn't hurt to keep him waffling. The thing to remember is that Senators don't just say these things. They are test balloons. They release a position statement and they see how many people yell at them for it. It's our job to make sure they know we are paying attention. |
